I CAN NOT LOSE WEIGHT WHY
Snacks, temptations, compulsions, poor eating habits are all reasons why we can not seem to lose weight. Explanations ...
snacking
It can eat through automation, without realizing it, without any real desire or hunger, passing in front of the fridge or cupboard. This snacking behavior, source of calories, it is well known among children, but there are also adults. One way to fight against this trend is to simply provide a lunch or snack when you need it most. It is the fact of thinking that will control himself better. snacking

This snacking behavior, source of calories, it is well known among children, but there are also adults. One way to fight against this trend is to simply provide a lunch or snack when you need it most. It is the fact of thinking that will control himself better.
temptations
There is also a trend that was to resist the pressure of food when we see them, feel them, we taste ... This is what is known hypersensitivity to food stimuli. Here again, a few simple rules allow us to fight against this natural tendency well:
do not let the long flat on the table,
do not keep the chocolate bar or packet of biscuits started next to you,
eat slowly to be quite sensitive to satiety signals and learn to respect his feelings,
do not go shopping hungry because it opens the door to indiscriminate purchases ...
The compulsive tendencies
Finally, the most difficult, the trends are called "compulsive". These trends correspond to the desires, urgent needs to eat with a feeling of loss of control followed by a strong sense of guilt. These trends often respond to a state of anxiety, stress, discomfort, resulting in a vicious circle. They contribute to the negative feeling of being constantly "at fault" for lack of cracked fault for not having enough will, lack of feeling lousy ?? Negative feeling which only increases the self-esteem of trouble already linked to this feeling of discomfort in his body.
Analyze why
Work against these trends is primarily to analyze how well the register of emotions appear cravings or these needs: anger, rage, nervousness, fear, depression ?? This negative feeling will be "fought" by eating. A quiet and well-being occur then, unfortunately fleeting because soon followed by a sense of guilt. By becoming aware of these feelings, these feelings, it is already possible to appease a part of but also to find ways to break this chain of behavior that is repeated multiple times.
"Asking"
This man (or woman) comes home from work upset, stressed from a difficult day, falls on the food upon arrival at home every day trying to resist this trend ... Why not break the rhythm and rituals and evening eg changing into returning or shower to "wash away all the stress of the day ?? "Settle quietly and comfortably for a few minutes of relaxation before resuming the evening. The activities sometimes enough to" ask "and expand his vision to finally realize that many solutions are possible us apart from the food. The situations are not always easy and sometimes it eating disorder requires care and psychological support. But one thing is certain: it is important to focus on his feelings to distinguish hunger pangs of desire to eat. In the same vein, it is worth asking what actually brought the food? A he calmed our anxiety, our anger, our fears, our lack of affection ?? By being a little more attentive to these different feelings or emotions these, it is possible to really advance in more control of how we eat.

I BUY I NOT BUY BRICK MILK FOR LOSING WEIGHT OF CRACKERS FOR DRINK ANTIBACTERIAL CLEANERS

Each month, The health dietician, alerts you on a few products that have challenged. This month, its yogurt and milk cartons, frozen vegetables, crackers and pistachios, and antibacterial products.
Buy six yogurt glass jars
so as to recover the necessary containers and then make my yogurt myself! Its easy, you do not even need a yogurt maker when following the advice and recipes provided by the health dietician in "Yogurt" to Solar Editions. And it costs less than yogurt trade.
I do not buy those pink milk cartons
intended to suppress appetite (and therefore to lose weight) despite the pub makes me laugh out loud. His "100% natural active ingredient" added to milk is made from palm oil (harmful to the arteries) and oats, cocoa powder, milk protein, green tea extract, stabilizers (E 407, E 460, E 466), sweetener, and an antioxidant. I really do not see how this "active principle" is natural !! And why swallow this mixture to 4 € per liter while an apple or a boiled egg have the same effect appetite suppressant?
Buy frozen vegetables
because in winter its still the best way to vary your diet and get out of the endless carrot and leek that are in season. Certainly zucchini, peppers, tomatoes etc. are in the markets, from Morocco or even further but they are much more expensive. And frozen foods, vitamins side, its great because they are from their harvest!
I do not buy appetizers crackers
because when I start a box (60 g), I can not stop to chew on. And when I look at the composition of the package: "Wheat flour, vegetable fat, grated cheese - dried 4%, sugar, baking powders: ammonium hydrogen carbonate, monocalcium orthophosphate - sodium bicarbonate, salt 1.5% sesame seeds and poppy 1.5%, glucose-fructose syrup, malted barley flour, dry yeast, lactose and milk protein, flavoring, soy, "I shudder with horror.
I buy Pistachio nuts
even if they provide more calories (615 to 100 g) crackers (515). But I eat less because it takes me time to dissect them and chew them. In addition they contain magnesium, full of antioxidants and it gives me a good conscience.
I do not buy antibacterial cleaners
since I read a very serious Canadian study demonstrating their danger. Indeed, they contain similar substances antibiotic hence enhancing strength thereof and the risk of development of stronger bacteria. This phenomenon of resistance and obsession with hygiene already facing enough problems, useless to add!

Not Another Boring Cola Roast
![]() |
Happy July! Are you gearing up for the Fourth? I love the 4th of July -- I especially like going for walks and seeing all the flags -- they make me feel protected and proud.
We always have typical American food on the 4th, which to my family means the staples: hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, and corn on the cob (dont worry, Ill sneak a crockpot or two in there--- probably with some baked beans). Its my grandmas birthday, and well finish our meal with chocolate cake.
Im looking forward to it.
The photo below has a small piece of meat shown; I was recipe-testing when I snapped that photo. If you do use a small piece of meat, move down to a 4-quart slow cooker.
The Ingredients.
serves 6 (if you shred the meat and serve in sandwiches, you can feed 8-10)
4 pound pork roast (bone in or out; Ive used both pork tenderloin and a shoulder/butt)
1 (7-ounce) can fire roasted diced green chiles
1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
1 tablespoon cumin
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon chipotle chili pepper (remember, the canned chipotles in adobo are not gluten free)
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup cola
The Directions.
Use a 6-quart slow cooker. Place the meat into the bottom of your cooker. In a small mixing bowl, combine the chiles, tomato paste, cumin, garlic powder, chili pepper, sugar, and salt. Stir to create a paste, and then smear this mixture on all sides of your meat. If you have time to do so, you can marinate your meat in this mixture overnight (in a sealed plastic bag or tupperware; its not recommended to refrigerate the stoneware and then cook in it).
Pour in cola.
Cover, and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours, or until pork has relaxed and begun to fall apart. If you used pork tenderloin, slice thinly and serve over rice or mashed potatoes. If you opted for a shoulder roast, shred completely using two large forks.
Enjoy!
The Verdict.
I like how the resulting pork is sweet but not in-your-face sticky sweet. Its got a bit of a kick, but its not spicy enough to deter small children. I think I might like the cold leftovers even better--- I toasted hamburger buns (we use the Udis brand) and added pickle relish and sliced cheddar for a next-day sandwich.
Have a wonderful and safe Fourth of July, and happy birthday to Grandma Bunny!!

Not Your Mothers Meatballs slow cooker recipe
Oh theyre just so pretty! Ive got a meatball recipe for you today that will become a new family favorite. Im not going to lie -- youre going to have to dirty up your hands a bit, but you wont have to wash a frying pan.
Those beautiful meatballs pictured up above? They held their form and browned beautifully all on their own in the crockpot --- no pre-browning required.
score!
The Ingredients.
makes 24 golfball-sized meatballs
1/4 cup chopped Italian Parsley
1.5 pounds lean ground beef
4 slices smoked bacon, diced (raw; dont cook it)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup Panko-style breadcrumbs (I used Kinnikinnick Gluten Free Bread Crumbs)
2 eggs (the eggs pictured are duck eggs! thanks, Grandpa John!)
2 tablespoons dried minced onion flakes
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
additional ingredients:
1 cup flour (I used rice flour)
2 cups chicken broth (can use beef)
1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
The Directions.
Use a 6-quart slow cooker. Spray the inside of your cooker with cooking spray, or rub it down with a bit of olive oil (dont go crazy, just a little glisten) and set aside. In a good-sized mixing bowl, combine the chopped parsley, ground beef, and diced bacon. Add in Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, eggs, and the dried spices. Combine well--- Id use your hands (remove rings, wash appropriately, and all that good stuff that if I had a legal team theyd tell me to include).
After the meat is mixed, line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or non-stick foil. Pour 1 cup of flour (I used rice flour) into a shallow dish (pie pan works great).
Roll meat into golfball-sized balls and then lightly dust each meat ball with flour before placing onto the lined cookie sheet. When all the meat is gone, put the whole cookie sheet into the freezer for 1 hour, or until completely frozen. Its okay to freeze overnight, if youd like to break this into two days (put in sealed dish/tupperware if freezing for longer).
Once your meatballs are frozen, place them one-by-one (this means dont dump!) into your lightly greased slow cooker. Its okay to stack them. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the broth and tomato paste to create a gravy. Pour this evenly over the meatballs. Cover, and cook on low for 5 hours, or until the meatballs have browned and are fully cooked. I cooked the meatballs pictured above on low for 5 hours, then let them sit on warm for another 3 1/2 hours before dinner was served.
Serve alongside pasta or rice, or all on their own. These are filling!
The Verdict.
You will love these. I couldnt stop taste-testing these throughout the afternoon and kept texting Adam to come home quick because dinner was going to rock.
and it did. I shared the leftovers with my dad who is somewhat of a meatball connoisseur and he *really* liked them. I learned about the flour-and-freezing trick from Pinterest--- it worked great, and is such a fantastic technique to keep the meat together. I already knew meatballs didnt need to be browned in the slow cooker beforehand but dredging them in flour first gives a bit more of a "crusty" texture and thickens the tomato gravy beautifully.
The internet is so much fun!
more meatballs in the crockpot:
apple, cheddar, and turkey meatballs
meatballs in peanut chile sauce
Albondigas (meatball) Soup
turkey meatballs with cranberry barbecue sauce
two little smokie appetizer recipes (but you can use meatballs!)
3 behaviors for not gaining weight

For our health, we all need to watch our weight. This original study highlights three key behaviors that do not gain weight. Explanations.
The main factors for weight gain
So far, the weight gain was primarily attributed to a high fat diet (and therefore calories too) and lack of physical activity (sedentary).
Today, Canadian researchers have identified three other key behaviors that contribute to weight gain. Good news, these behaviors are modifiable, opening the possibility of preventing an increase in body mass index.
3 new behaviors related to weight
This study has identified the essential role of behavior in three weight gain examined 800 people living in the Quebec region.
The 3 factors associated with weight gain are:
1) Lack of sleep, less than 6 hours per night.
2) Low intakes of calcium, less than 600 mg / day (the recommended dietary allowances for adults is 1200 mg / day).
3) The tendency to overeat.
These three behaviors increased more likely to gain weight as too caloric diet and physical inactivity combined. Supporting Evidence:
Inactivity causes an average weight gain of 1.3 kg per year.
Physical inactivity associated with a diet rich successful to an average weight gain of 1.5 kg.
Lack of sleep alone would be responsible for weight gain of 1.7 kg per year.
Finally, three factors combined (lack of sleep, calcium deficiency and tendency to overeat) would result in an additional 3 kg per year.
Weight management is based on a lifestyle
In conclusion, these three new factors must be taken into account. Identification emphasizes that weight changes are a combination of different factors. In other words, weight management is based on a true lifestyle. Just consider the calorie intake and physical activity is not enough. It must, in addition, getting enough sleep, ensuring adequate calcium intake (milk products, mineral water, vegetables ...) and maintain a healthy eating: no restrictions, no disorder of satiety ...

Take What’s Best from Nuts Not all of it should be in Your Healthy Baskets
Nuts are very small nutriments, which are filled up with fats important for the heart, protein, vitamins, and minerals.
The finest nuts for your own diet – Almonds, Cashews, Pistachios
All nuts are healthy supplements to any diet due to their mix of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and protein. These substances, which are contained in nuts, will help you feel fed up and repress your appetite. All kinds of nuts are about the same in terms of calories per ounce.
The substandard nuts for your diet – Macadamia Nuts, Pecans
Macadamia nuts and pecans possess the most calories (200 each), as well as the lowest amounts of protein and the highest amounts of fats. 10 to 12 macadamia nuts contain 2 grams of protein and 21 grams fat; while 18 to 20 halves of pecans contain 3 grams of protein, and 20 grams fat.
Despite all these, they’re still good nuts. The distinction in calories between macadamia nuts and pecans in comparison with the lowest calorie nuts is not more than 40 calories an ounce. Any kind of raw, simple nut will afford you a good portion of healthy fats and nutrients, as long as you’re consuming them reasonable.
Best nuts for your heart – Walnuts
Even though all nuts contain heart-healthy omega-3 fats, walnuts possess high amounts of alpha linoleic acid (ALA). 14 halves of walnuts contain 185 calories, 18 grams fat, and 4 grams protein. Research has revealed that walnuts are as effective as olive oil at decreasing inflammation and oxidation in the arteries after consuming a fatty meal, additionally ALA may help heart arrhythmia’s. The researchers suggested consuming about eight walnuts daily to acquire almost identical benefits.
Best nuts for your brain – Peanuts
Peanuts have high amount of folate, a mineral crucial for brain growth that may preserve against cognitive reduction. One ounce of peanuts contains about 170 calories, 7 grams protein, and 14 grams fat. Folate also makes peanuts an excellent choice for vegetarians, and pregnant women, who need folate to keep safe their unborn babies from birth deformities. The same as many other nuts, peanuts are also full of brain-stimulating healthy fats and vitamin E, as well.
Best nuts for disease prevention – Almonds
Almonds are relatively low in calories. They possess more calcium compared to any other nut, which makes them an excellent food for overall health. What’s more, they are wealthy in fiber and vitamin E, an antioxidant that aids in fighting dangerous inflammation and possibly health problems, like lung cancer and age-related cognitive reduction.

Running For Weight Loss Why You Might Not Lose Weight While Running
While training for optimal performance on race day is the main focus for our coaches here at RunnersConnect, many of the athletes we coach set secondary goals to lose weight and generally desire to be healthier overall.
Certainly, sometimes these two goals – setting a new pr and losing weight – go hand-in-hand, but as coaches we tend to focus on letting weight loss come naturally as the body adapts to training and new levels of fitness.
However, we can appreciate that runners might want to speedup the weight loss aspect of training, which is why I wrote this earlier post on losing weight while running.
Unfortunately, sometimes when a runner first begins serious training, the needle on the scale doesn’t immediately go down, and sometimes it can even head in the wrong direction.
This trend can be frustrating and demoralizing to many runners. However, if you understand the science behind initial weight loss and the practical reasons for why this occurs, you can temper yourself from getting discouraged and make positive and long-term gains both to your overall fitness and to your race times.
So, here are some reasons why you might actually gain weight when training hard.
The Scale is a Trickster
If the scale were a human, he/she would be considered a deceptive trickster. A scale only provides one number, your absolute weight, which isn’t always an accurate measurement of what is happening in your body. Drink a gallon of water and you’ve instantly gained 8.3 pounds. Remove a kidney and you’ve lost 2 pounds.
Extreme examples, I know, but I think it proves that your absolute weight on a scale isn’t always a truthful assessment of changes in your weight, or more importantly your fitness. Here are just a few reasons the numbers on the scale will lie to you:
You will store extra water
When you increase your training to gear up for your goal race, your body begins to store more water to repair damaged muscle fibers and to deliver glycogen to the working muscles. Likewise, you may even be drinking more water to supplement the miles and ensure your hydrated. All this water adds pounds to the scale, but isn’t indicative of your actually weight loss.
Muscle weighs more than fat
While you’re not going to turn into a body builder after just a few days of running, your body will slowly begin to build muscle and burn fat. While this is great news for your overall fitness and race times, you’re actually gaining weight by supplementing low density fat tissue for high density muscle tissue. While it may not look great on the scale, it’s much healthier and will help you to continue to get faster and fitter.
Looking for short-term results
It takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose one pound. Ideally, you should target a 300-600 a day calorie deficit if you want to lose weight safely and be healthy. This means, you can expect to lose about 1-2 pounds per week. Checking the scale every morning is going to revel very little about your long-term progress or the actual state of your weight loss.
If you weigh yourself everyday, you’re simply measuring day-to-day fluctuations in your hydration levels and other non-essential weight metrics. Just like you wouldn’t expect a 1 minute drop in your 5k PR after a week of training, don’t expect a 5 pound weight loss after your first week of running.
Eating Too Much to Compensate
You burn more calories while running than almost any other activity you can do. Unfortunately, while the energy demands of running are high, this does not mean that you can eat a big mac and a donut guilt-free and still lose weight.
I often hear runners rationalize their dessert intake by saying, “hey, I ran 5 miles today, I deserve it”. Likewise, I see many running groups meet-up at Starbucks or the local coffee shop after a weekend run. Unfortunately, an iced latté and a small scone will quickly eliminate any caloric deficit from the run and negate possible weight loss.
While running does burn calories, you have to be careful not to quickly or inadvertently eat them back with non-nutrient dense foods.
Likewise, as mentioned in my article on how to lose weight and still run well, you should be providing your muscles with the necessary carbohydrates and protein to recover. This is a delicate balance, and probably the most difficult element to losing weight while running.
As a coach, I think it is more important to focus on recovery and ensure that your muscles have the nutrients they need to rebuild. The harder you train, the more often you will get hungry and the real secret is to refuel with nutrient dense and high quality foods.
Sacrificing recovery for a few less calories is not a good long-term plan. The numbers on the scale are arbitrary and focusing on them can be detrimental to your long-term progression. If you can continue to build your fitness and training levels, you’ll be running farther, faster, and be much healthier overall.
Calculating how may calories you burn while running
On average, a runner will burn 100 calories per mile, but this will depend on your pace, size and metabolism.
Hidden Calories
Many marathon runners automatically assume they are going shed pounds with all the extra mileage they are putting in. However, not only should you ensure that you’re recovering properly after your hard workouts and long runs by eating the right foods, you also need to account for what I call “hidden calories”.
Primarily, hidden calories come in the form of sports drinks and energy gels, which have a high caloric content.
It’s critical that you practice your fueling strategy during your long runs and hard workouts for optimal performance on race day. Likewise, to sustain high levels of training and to complete long and arduous marathon workouts, you need to fuel during your training sessions with sports drinks and energy gels.
However, this also means that the total number of calories you will burn from these long runs and hard workouts will be less than you might realize. Again, for optimal performance and training progression, you need these extra calories.
Unfortunately, they can also be the reason you might not see the weight loss on a scale.
Focus On The Right Metrics
The bottom line is this: running will not automatically result in an immediate weight loss.
Yes, running burns more calories than any other form of exercise, but the scale should not be the primary metric by which you gauge your fitness level and training progression.
While I understand weight loss is an important goal for many runners, don’t become a slave to the numbers on the scale. Pay attention to how you feel – do you have more energy, feel stronger, starting to fit into your clothes better? While not absolute measurements, these emotions are a much more accurate measurement of your progression.
If you have questions about weight loss and running, post them in the comments section and we’ll be sure to help you out.

Organic - Is it Worth It?
In April I wrote about organic fruits and vegetables and if they are worth the extra money. Although many of us go ahead and spend more for organic foods to avoid consuming pesticide residues, we are less conscious of other ways that we expose ourselves to harmful chemicals.
Think about how many products we use in or on our bodies? Shampoo, toothpaste, lotion, lip balm, shaving cream, tampons, mouth wash - and the list goes on and on. Even licking an envelope exposes you to whatever happens to be in the glue! So today, because its a big shopping day, Im going to share a few of my favorite products that I feel safe using on my body.
iLike and Juice Beauty Organic Skin Care Products
One of the best things I did for myself this year was allow myself to be pampered. I started going to Amazing Face Sebastopol, where I got hooked on the most pleasurable facials in the world by Marianne Allred, the owner of the establishment. Besides knowing how to pamper, she really understands skin care products and only uses those with safe, organic ingredients. I was turned on to two product lines that she uses, which I now cannot live without! One is iLike and the other is Juice Beauty.
The iLike (pronounced "ey-lee-kay) products are so fresh and natural, you feel like they just came out of your blender! Ingredients for their products are grown and harvested in the Carpathian region of Hungary. My favorite product of theirs is the Rosehip Exfoliator but, honestly, every one of their products that I have tried has been amazing. Of course its best to support your local businesses so try to find this product locally. If you live in or near Sebastopol, you can pick these up at Amazing Face Sebastopol. If you cannot find them locally, try sites like Skinbotanica - they carry the full line of iLike products.

I also fell in love with Juice Beauty, my favorite products being their Stem Cellular Repair products as well as their reflecting gloss lip color. Their moisturizer smells like fresh citrus and you can almost feel it "eating up" the free radicals on your skin! I use the Stem Cellular Repair Moisturizer , Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy Serum and the Stem Cellular Repair Eye Treatment. In Sebastopol, you can buy Juice Beauty products at Amazing Face Sebastopol.

Dry Shampoo - Lulu Organics
OK, I admit it. Some days I just dont want to wash my hair. In fact, there are many days like that. Especially in the winter when its cold and rainy. So being able to shake a little hair powder in my hand, rub it through my hair for a few seconds and be done for the day is a blessing!
Dry shampoos arent new but they are usually made with talc. Turns out that there are serious concerns that talc can be carcinogenic. I shutter to think how I freely powdered my babies bottoms with talcum powder without even thinking about that!
Out of this concern, my daughter, Linda Aldredge, created Lulu Organics and developed a "talc free" hair powder . This dry shampoo comes in 4 delicious scents, Lavender and Clary Sage, Jasmine, Patchouli and Amber, and Vetiver and Black Pepper. They come in Full 4 oz bottles which can last a long time so they are worth the $30 price or if you want to try a few different scents, you can get the 1 oz travel size which are offered in both Lavender and Jasmine. New York Magazine listed this product in The Gift Guide 2011 - Stocking Stuffer Ideas. It was also listed as the number 1 hair powder in the Zoe Report. Follow Lulu Organics on Facebook.

Dont Forget about those Lips!
I am especially worried about products that go on my lips. After all, we lick our lips all day long so whatever is on them, ends up in our body. A friend of mine whose wife suffered from celiac, went on a strict gluten free diet. When she found no relief, they discovered there was gluten in her lipstick! So we should worry about the ingredients in our lip products.
My two favorite lip products are Juice Beauty Reflecting Gloss and Lulu Organics Lip Balm.
