Changing My Relationship With Food
One year ago, on the Summer Solstice, I set an intention to change my relationship to food and regain my health and vitality. I was morbidly obese and yet the goal had little to do with the number on the scale. I wanted to find freedom from mindless compulsive eating, whatever my weight. I wanted to begin living a healthier lifestyle that was more in alignment with my core beliefs. My intention had nothing to do with dieting, and everything to do with living.
Most people dont even think that they have a relationship with food. Trust me, you do. And mine was quite intimate, and complicated. It started when I was a wee toddler and became more and more convoluted throughout the years.
In my Hungarian household, food took center stage. We celebrated with food. We mourned with food. I learned to use food for pleasure, for comfort, for reward. I turned to food when I was sad, hurt, angry, bored and lonely. I quickly forgot that eating had anything to do with being hungry. Food became the glue that held my life together.
When I set about changing my relationship to food, the goal was not to detach all emotion and enjoyment from eating. It was to find a healthy balance between getting the nutrition my body needs and enjoying my meals mindfully. In short, where I once lived to eat, I had to learn to eat to live.
Reflecting On A Year of Change
Sunday marked the first day of summer, and I spent time reflecting on the many changes of this past year — Ive regained my health and vitality, and, yes, I have succeeded in changing my relationship to food. I thought Id share with you a bit of what Ive learned along the way:
- Most of us go unconscious when we eat. After the first few bites, we dont even taste it. Maybe its because were usually doing five other things while eating. To feel the physical satisfaction from the food, it is important to be relaxed and aware as you eat.
- Cultivate a sense of gratitude for your food. Each time we remember to eat with awareness, we return to that place of inner peace.
- Most of the time we eat in response to our minds. Most of the time we feed our bodies without consulting our bodies.
- Physical hunger is of the body. Physical hunger asks for food. Nonphysical hunger is of the mind, the heart. When you see that your physical hunger is capable of being fulfilled, you can begin to allow that same possibility for your emotional hunger.
- If youre not experiencing physical hunger, yet youre still reaching for the food, then its time to figure out what you want from food beyond its nourishing your body. A sure-fire way of doing that is to ask: What is it I dont want to feel, do, or say right now?
- Food is fuel for our bodies, not a drug for our souls. As we learn to nourish our bodies, we find that we are spiritually nourished as well.
- There is nothing you can’t have tomorrow so there is no reason to eat it all today.
- If we change our relationship to food, we have to find other ways to entertain ourselves, comfort ourselves, and find pleasure.
- Going to the farmer’s market for fresh produce and meeting the farmers that grow your food is a wonderful way to foster a healthier relationship with food.
- Stay focused on the healthy choices youre making each day. If you do indulge in old behaviors with food, release the guilt or thoughts of "falling off the wagon." There is no wagon to fall off. Were not giving anything up. We can still eat that whole bag of Doritos if we want, but were choosing not to.
- When we stop dieting, we have to trust that our body will tell us what it needs. This can be terrifying because we think we need so much. We still want what we werent allowed as a child. More often than not, this has little to do with food.
- As we begin listening to our bodies, we discover our own voice – something we were often too young to know we had given away. Deciding what goes into our mouths, and when, is very empowering.
- Food cravings are physical. Food obsessions are emotional.
- Physical cravings are our cells crying for the nutrients they need. Sadly, we often respond to this urge by eating highly processed and refined foods which only promote further malnourishment.
- Mineral-rich foods, like dark leafy greens and sea vegetables, stave off cravings.
- Theres a very dangerous myth that "fat makes you fat." The truth is, without enough fatty acids, our brains do not function properly and our cells cannot communicate. The proper kind of fats are essential to our health and well being.
- When you are busy loving life, food becomes less of a mistress.
Now tell me, what kind of relationship do you have with food today? Friend or foe?

A Book Club! so my brain doesnt go to mush!

[there is a new recipe for Country Captain Chicken down below]
I wrote last week about the possibility of reading a book or two together over the summer holiday. I havent done much reading (other than Pat the Bunny and cookbooks) lately, and I miss it.
I received nineteen recommendations to read Kathryn Stocketts, The Help.
I dont know anything about this book other than the information listed on Amazon, and that it appears to be a bit controversial to some reviewers.
But my friend Danielle sells an awful lot of copies, and Shirley liked it, so thats good enough for me.
The kids are off school this upcoming Monday, and Ill need a good book to read during quiet reading time. Penny (I dont have a link for Penny!) pointed out that its still only available in hardback (although there is a kindle version), but my local library has 12 copies, so hopefully yours has a copy to borrow.
Hows July 15 or thereabouts work? Ive got a deadline July 1, which is why Id prefer a bit of wiggle-room. The 15th is a Thursday.
Ill start a discussion on this site in the morning, and then host a live twitter party that evening---5 to 6 pm pacific time.
If you dont have twitter, no worries. You can still follow along, even without an account.
As for facebook, Im still a holdout. I dont have an account---Im super nervous to have "just one more thing" to check during the day, and I figure if anyone really wants to get a hold of me they can track me down. That said, a reader did start a fan page where you can evidently chat back and forth. I think. Im not actually sure how it all works!
Happy reading! See you on July 15th!

Should I End My Life
Should I End My Life
Most of us (especially those who have seen a lot of ups and downs in life) at a certain point must have thought about ending your life. But do u really think that you have the right to end your life. Sometimes we are in so much physical or psychological pain that we think to end all that pain by ending ourselves. I expect your thoughts at the end of this article to get your views on this thing too. But at this time lets proceed with my views.
Our life outcome of someone elses effort. Those someone else are not just our parents, its not just our
mother or father. Those someone include our friends, brothers and sisters, our spouse, our children. Life is not just taking birth. Life is much more than that. Its also connected to a number of other lives. We are a just a part of a social network. Our one decision can make a lot of effects on lives of other people.

Sometimes we think that others dont like us, dont trust us, they dont need us any more. But its just our thinking (mostly for a few hours or days). Some of us make a very hard decision during that time. If we wait for a few more hours or speak to someone regarding our feelings then we might not take such step. We might think that no body need us, but there is always somebody who cant live without you, for whom you are very special. That special person may be your father , mother, friend, spouse, son or daughter. You might be thinking that that person dont need you anymore as he / she is angry with you. But it doesnt mean that he / she will live happily without you. If you love him / her then you will not want to make them unhappy and regret their one fight with you for their whole life.
Even if you think that that special person want to get rid of you, but you love him / her and want to fulfill his / her wish by ending your life. In that case there might be somebody else who need you much more than him / her.
We think that our life our own, but its not. it belongs to everybody who are part of your life. Just think about those who will feel lonely without you. Who loved you more than their own life, who struggled to make you a better person, who took you to doctors when you were ill, who wept when you were in pain, who wanted to make your life better, who spent their lives to make you something. It doesnt matter if you have reached you goal in life or not. But there are still chances. But if you end yourselves those chances will be gone. There is always a way towards better life. Dont let that chance end. HOPE is everything. Hope for better !

Slimming what aesthetic techniques for my figure
Except for obesity surgery, based on the gastric band and bypass, surgery the best known and most practiced aesthetic is liposuction or liposuction. However there are other cosmetic techniques, much less invasive, which allow to thin some areas: lipolysis, ultrasound, laser, etc. Their use depends on the area to be thinned and extent (stomach, saddlebags, love handles, inner knees, etc.).
The obesity surgery (gastric banding and bypass)
Reserved for obese people, obesity surgery is based on two techniques: the placement of a gastric band that shrinks the volume of the stomach and bypass whose principle is to bypass part of the stomach .
Thus effectively reduces the volume of the digested food (about 40%), which results in a very significant weight loss. This intervention has drawbacks that must be discussed in advance with the surgeon. The cost of this surgery is usually covered by health insurance.
Saddlebags, big belly: the choice of liposuction or liposuction
This cosmetic surgery technique involves sucking clusters localized fat cells. Thus manages to treat relatively large surfaces saddlebags, abdomen, buttocks, but also knees, ankles ...
This intervention is radical and requires hospitalization for one day on average. Its cost is about 2,000 to 3,000 euros. The downside is that liposuction can leave the skin stretched, sometimes requiring a subsequent lift-type intervention.
Other slimming solution lipolysis
This technique is based on aesthetic injections of phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate, to break the membrane of fat cells (adipocytes) and remove the contents.
Treating localized fat and charges (10 cm / 10 cm): banana under the buttocks, flanks, inner knees, inner thighs.
This technique (such as following too) is performed as an outpatient, outpatient and may take up to ten sessions depending on the area being treated, each costing about 90 euros.
Cellulite and fat cells: laser lipolysis
With the laser, fat cells are destroyed by heat. The laser also has a retracting effect on the skin tissues. Against the ideal that is cellulite, but not only: belly, waist, arms ...
It takes 1,000 euros for a small sitting area.
Have you thought ultrasound?
This technique uses an ultrasonic frequency capable of destroying the adipocytes. Depending on the frequency used, one can reach the fat cells located at different depths.
May be so treated saddlebags, but especially small areas such as inner knees, arms, thighs, waist, belly ...
Mesotherapy can also help to slim
Mesotherapy involves injecting stimulating microcirculation and factors of lipolysis (caffeine, buflomedil ...). This technique allows to treat relatively large surfaces: saddlebags, orange peel ... It takes ten sessions, each with an average cost of 100 euros.
Aesthetic medicine is progressing rapidly. Take the time to discuss with your cosmetic doctor the various options available to you depending on the area to be treated and its extent. And do not hesitate to talk price: the cost of a meeting, but the number of sessions that will be, a priori, necessary ...

My Dailey Playlist
Music is pretty much always on my mind, but it has been even more so lately and inspired my blog topic this week. Yes, you’ve heard it… I LOVE Spotify. The quantity of music right at your fingertips is so fun and exciting. The opportunity it allows you to get inspiration from others, create, and change up playlists is truly life changing - if you have my life:). When I have a great playlist I know I teach a better class because I’m motivated and inspired. It’s also incredibly motivating to me as a student when my teachers have current, interesting and creative playlists. I make it a goal to always have a playlist that I love. Here’s my current spotify list that I’m taking to Chicago with me for the upcoming teacher workshop series (keep a watch on my instagramfor photos from that). Maybe it will inspire you to do a little thigh dancing or push-ups all on your own!

A couple of notes on how I design my playlists:
- I always have music in the beginning of my list that that doesn’t necessarily work for class but for the students enjoyment while they’re entering and preparing for class. It sets the mood but still keeps a calm energy- we can pick it up once I put on the microphone!
- I try to have a balance of great new music and old music. I know students really appreciate hearing the new but also familiarity to music is really powerful when people are working deeply.
- I try not to use songs that have profanity but sometimes the song just demands to be played. My daughter Nico loves to help me find songs and she found All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor a couple weeks ago. She said “Mom there’s a couple bad words but it really has positive messaging.” Love! Done!
- I do my best to time my music so that one song will roll into the next. I use my playlist to keep me on track with timing. Now you know- if I have to rewind a song “uh oh!” it’s your 70 minute class.
Here’s some pointers on my current list just in case you want to envision where you’ll be during class for the different songs:
- My warm-upsong is Another Love by Tom Odell- LOVE this song right now!
- Big surprise! you’ll be in thighwork and back dancing with “my boy” Pitbull.
- You’ll be stretching during Battle Scars and Good Girls.
- Life of the Party is for Savasana, helping you walk out stronger, healthier and calmer.
Happy listening!

How can I make my face thin
.jpg)
If you do not like chubby cheeks and want face thin , then take note of these simple tips . To get rid of fat on the face , it is necessary to make changes in your lifestyle , go on a healthy diet and exercise regularly .
1. Avoid sweets .
Give up a hearty breakfast with pancakes in maple syrup and delicious donuts. Eat mostly foods high in fiber and protein , they accelerate the fat burning process in the body.
2 . Drink more water .
If you want to get rid of chubby cheeks , you should drink more water. If you ever wake up in the morning in the mirror and saw swollen eyes and cheeks - it means your body retains water .
Minimum of eight glasses of water a day and a balanced diet with a minimal amount of sugar and salt will help you cope with the swelling on his face.
3 . Cardio exercises .
Cardio exercises help you lose weight everywhere, including in the area of the face . Running, cycling, aerobics, swimming and jumping rope - the best exercise for burning fat.
4 . Try the following exercises for the face.
In parallel with cardio exercise and a healthy diet , it is desirable to do some exercise . Smile and try to keep your mouth in this position for 10-15 seconds . Repeat the exercise , but now try to touch the tongue tip of the nose . Do this exercise in the morning and evening every day, and you will notice a change in a week .

Organic - Is it Worth It?
In April I wrote about organic fruits and vegetables and if they are worth the extra money. Although many of us go ahead and spend more for organic foods to avoid consuming pesticide residues, we are less conscious of other ways that we expose ourselves to harmful chemicals.
Think about how many products we use in or on our bodies? Shampoo, toothpaste, lotion, lip balm, shaving cream, tampons, mouth wash - and the list goes on and on. Even licking an envelope exposes you to whatever happens to be in the glue! So today, because its a big shopping day, Im going to share a few of my favorite products that I feel safe using on my body.
iLike and Juice Beauty Organic Skin Care Products
One of the best things I did for myself this year was allow myself to be pampered. I started going to Amazing Face Sebastopol, where I got hooked on the most pleasurable facials in the world by Marianne Allred, the owner of the establishment. Besides knowing how to pamper, she really understands skin care products and only uses those with safe, organic ingredients. I was turned on to two product lines that she uses, which I now cannot live without! One is iLike and the other is Juice Beauty.
The iLike (pronounced "ey-lee-kay) products are so fresh and natural, you feel like they just came out of your blender! Ingredients for their products are grown and harvested in the Carpathian region of Hungary. My favorite product of theirs is the Rosehip Exfoliator but, honestly, every one of their products that I have tried has been amazing. Of course its best to support your local businesses so try to find this product locally. If you live in or near Sebastopol, you can pick these up at Amazing Face Sebastopol. If you cannot find them locally, try sites like Skinbotanica - they carry the full line of iLike products.

I also fell in love with Juice Beauty, my favorite products being their Stem Cellular Repair products as well as their reflecting gloss lip color. Their moisturizer smells like fresh citrus and you can almost feel it "eating up" the free radicals on your skin! I use the Stem Cellular Repair Moisturizer , Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy Serum and the Stem Cellular Repair Eye Treatment. In Sebastopol, you can buy Juice Beauty products at Amazing Face Sebastopol.

Dry Shampoo - Lulu Organics
OK, I admit it. Some days I just dont want to wash my hair. In fact, there are many days like that. Especially in the winter when its cold and rainy. So being able to shake a little hair powder in my hand, rub it through my hair for a few seconds and be done for the day is a blessing!
Dry shampoos arent new but they are usually made with talc. Turns out that there are serious concerns that talc can be carcinogenic. I shutter to think how I freely powdered my babies bottoms with talcum powder without even thinking about that!
Out of this concern, my daughter, Linda Aldredge, created Lulu Organics and developed a "talc free" hair powder . This dry shampoo comes in 4 delicious scents, Lavender and Clary Sage, Jasmine, Patchouli and Amber, and Vetiver and Black Pepper. They come in Full 4 oz bottles which can last a long time so they are worth the $30 price or if you want to try a few different scents, you can get the 1 oz travel size which are offered in both Lavender and Jasmine. New York Magazine listed this product in The Gift Guide 2011 - Stocking Stuffer Ideas. It was also listed as the number 1 hair powder in the Zoe Report. Follow Lulu Organics on Facebook.

Dont Forget about those Lips!
I am especially worried about products that go on my lips. After all, we lick our lips all day long so whatever is on them, ends up in our body. A friend of mine whose wife suffered from celiac, went on a strict gluten free diet. When she found no relief, they discovered there was gluten in her lipstick! So we should worry about the ingredients in our lip products.
My two favorite lip products are Juice Beauty Reflecting Gloss and Lulu Organics Lip Balm.
